You may have heard of platelet-rich plasma treatment (PRP), but you may not actually know much about it. What is PRP used for? What are the benefits of PRP? Who can be a candidate for PRP?
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is an established injection therapy to enhance tissue regeneration. PRP Treatment (Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment) is an excellent treatment that uses a small amount of your own blood to stimulate the production of collagen and new skin cells. The technique has a long history within orthopaedics medicine and reconstructive surgery, however in recent years the treatments has become more widely popularised within the cosmetic industry.
PRP is concentrated blood plasma that contains about 3 to 5 times the number of platelets found in normal blood. PRP is used to facilitate wound healing, however, studies suggest that it can also serve as an effective and safe treatment for treating hair loss in both men and women. PRP is the same treatment that is done on the face as vampire facelift to reduce acne scars, wrinkles, lines and helps in building collagen.
This treatment assists in the rejuvenation of different conditions such as:
The benefits of this treatment include:
You may not be a candidate for PRP if you have severe anaemia, low platelet count, abnormal platelet function, active systemic infection, or active cancer may not be eligible. It is not known if blood thinning medication alters the effects of platelet rich plasma.
In your initial consultation we will discuss your desired results with you and advise the number of treatments accordingly.
1. A small sample of blood is extracted from the client’s arm (approx 10mls). 2. The blood is then placed in a centrifuge for a few minutes and spun at high speed. 3. A sterile syringe is used to withdraw only the PRP (platelet rich plasma) from the sample 4. The PRP is injected into the problem areas of the skin and surrounding cells reproduce.
The whole procedure only involves needle injections to the desired areas, requires virtually no healing time and also reduces possible side effects to a minimum. The procedure usually takes less than an hour and clients can go home or to work following treatment.
A very mild stinging sensation may be felt. There is some minor discomfort when the injections into the scalp are made but these are done with a very fine needle to minimise any pain.
All non-invasive treatments carry a small element of risk, which is why at Prity Salon we only carry out treatments after a face to face consultation, during which we will assess you, and detail the cautions and contradictions for the procedure.
PRP treatment is a safe, effective alternative for people seeking natural healing without the use of surgery or medications. Because PRP is made from a person’s own blood there is no chance of allergic, hypersensitivity, or foreign-body reactions. An FDA-approved, closed sterile system is used throughout the procedure to prevent infection. A brief period of inflammation/redness at the site of application is normal and expected. There is little to no downtime following most PRP procedures and recovery time is significantly less than with surgery. PRP permits the body to take advantage of the normal healing pathways at a greatly accelerated rate.
The procedure takes less than one hour and has minimal to no downtime and the healing process is gradual and can take up to 8-12 weeks to see desired results.
Depending on the area treated, repeat treatments may be necessary to continue the desired effects. Hair rejuvenation with PRP should be repeated six months to continue new hair follicle growth.
Platelet rich plasma injections are an alternative to medications or surgery. Ideal candidates would be those who prefer a less invasive option to surgery or those who are unable to undergo a surgery or tolerate pain medication. It allows for a much quicker recovery period and is much less painful than a surgery.
Response and number of sessions may vary by client. Smokers may require more treatment sessions that non-smokers as tobacco smoke toxins may diminish cellular responsiveness to PRP.
4 to 6 monthly treatments and 3 follow up treatment in a year.
